Al culminar este nivel, el participante será capaz de entender las ideas principales de textos complejos que traten de temas tanto concretos como abstractos, incluso si son de carácter técnico siempre que estén dentro de su campo de especialización. Podrá relacionarse con hablantes nativos con un grado suficiente de fluidez y naturalidad de modo que la comunicación se realice sin esfuerzo por parte de ninguno de los interlocutores. Podrá producir textos claros y detallados sobre temas diversos, así como defender un punto de vista sobre temas generales indicando los pros y los contras de las distintas opciones.

At the end of this level, you will be able to understand the main ideas of complex texts dealing with both concrete and abstract topics, even if they are of a technical nature and as long as they are within your field of expertise. You will be able to interact with native speakers with a sufficient degree of fluency and ease so that communication is effortless for both parties. You will be able to produce clear and detailed texts on different topics, as well as defend a point of view on general topics, indicating the pros and cons of the different options.

We will introduce the following topics: 

  • Form basic subject and object questions.
  • The difference between present simple and present continuous, and gradable and extreme adjectives.
  • Expressions to give and respond to opinions.
  • The difference between the present perfect simple and the past simple.
  • Review of the present perfect continuous.
  • Conjunctions.
  • Narrative tenses.
  • Review of used to.
  • Able to and manage to to talk about abilities and achievements.
  • Difference between –ed and -ing adjectives.
  • Tag questions.
  • Will, going to and the present continuous to talk about the future.
  • Zero and first conditional using if and when.
  • Modals of obligation.
  • Review of comparatives and superlatives.
  • Modals of deduction.
  • Qualifiers, verbs, and prepositions.
  • Expressions to make offers and polite requests.
  • Expand the use of reported speech.
  • Reporting verbs.
  • Non-defining relative clauses and expand understanding of defining relative clauses.
  • Expressions to make and respond to recommendations and suggestions.
  • The second conditional to talk about the things that you would like to do.
  • The third conditional.
  • TOEFL Listening: Introduction to the Listening Section.

2. Upper Intermediate Week 2

Feb 1

The difference between the present perfect simple and the past simple Review of the present perfect continuous Conjunctions TOEFL Listening: Main Idea Questions and Detail Questions

3. Upper Intermediate Week 3

Feb 1

Narrative tenses. Review of used to. Able to and manage to to talk about abilities and achievements. TOEFL Listening: Purpose Questions and Inference Questions.

4. Upper Intermediate Week 4

Feb 1

Difference between –ed and -ing adjectives. Tag questions. Will, going to and the present continuous to talk about the future.

5. Upper Intermediate Week 5

Feb 1

Zero and first conditional using if and when Modals of obligation and permission Comparatives and superlatives TOEFL Listening: Function Questions and Attitude Questions

6. Upper Intermediate Week 6
